About

Hi, I’m Maddie. When I began my artistic practice, I was an extremely anxious college student working toward a degree in Planetary Sciences. My coursework allowed me to learn so much about the beauty of our planet, and I became inspired to draw not just planets and moons, but geological specimens, fossils, and plant life. I found that focusing in on detailed drawings, building up a drawing dot by dot, really helped me cope with my anxiety. Forcing myself to slow down and create art with just pen and paper was a balm for my overstimulated mind.

After I graduated, I moved to the Pacific Northwest, where the ecosystem was new and intriguing. I began to choose more florals and mushrooms as my subjects, fascinated and challenged by their varying textures. My drawings are an intimate experience, as I spend hours and hours inking all of the close-up details.

Nowadays, I live with my partner and my ball python, and I am able to spend time in my home art studio as well as working with children and families in a local toy store. I am grateful to be able to continue my art practice and do what I love doing.
